Here is an image that began as a series of lines and gradually took form into this finished product - in this case I call it "The Werewolf":
And here is an example of the pre-conceived theme - in it I began with the Lizard motif and continued from that idea to this finished drawing:
When looking at these two drawings you can see the use of fine lines and detail, and the use of pen and ink found in the works of M.C. Escher and the incorporation of animals - one inside of the other (a fish, an alligator and a snake can be found inside the lizard) as seen in the works of the Meso-American Indians and the Indians of the North West Coast. I think you will agree - the influences are clear yet the drawings are unique - and they continue to be fun exercises with pen and ink.
